Teaching and Learning

Tamil Language lessons are designed to engage students in meaningful and authentic learning experiences that promote active participation, collaboration and independent learning. Students explore topics by gathering information, discussing ideas with their peers and sharing their understanding through speaking and writing. These learning experiences help students develop critical and creative thinking skills, while strengthening their ability to communicate clearly and confidently in the Tamil Language.

A variety of learning approaches and resources are used to support students’ learning, including hands-on activities and ICT tools. ICT tools are thoughtfully integrated to support discussion, idea generation and presentation of learning, and to provide timely feedback where appropriate. Teachers design and facilitate learning experiences that guide students in using the language meaningfully, encourage interaction among peers and support students in deepening their understanding and application of the Tamil Language in authentic contexts.

Tamil Language Fortnight and Camp

Tamil Language Fortnight creates an immersive and meaningful environment for the students to learn and appreciate Tamil Language. It provides platforms with authentic settings for the students to associate and experience the Indian culture.

Students’ participation in the activities such as Poetry Recitation, Storytelling and Language Activities help to develop their interest and deepen their knowledge in Tamil Language. The fortnight activities help to instill in students the joy of learning the Tamil Language and knowing its rich tradition and culture.

P4 Tamil Language camp provides students with more opportunities to speak and learn their Tamil Language in an authentic setting that is rich in the culture. These activities help students to appreciate their roots and learn the rationale and value in the various customary practices.

MTL Challenge (Tamil Language)

Learning takes place when students can apply what they have learnt in the classroom. As such, the MTL Challenge (Tamil Language) is organised for our students every semester. These internal competitions include a range of activities from speaking to writing, providing students with meaningful opportunities to use the Tamil Language, showcase their creativity and apply their language knowledge in authentic contexts.
