Chinese Junior Reporters

Primary 4 and 5 students build Chinese skills and confidence through the Junior Reporter Programme, learning to interview, film, and report on real events.

Junior Reporter Programme

The Junior Reporter Programme is integrated into the Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL) curriculum at Primary 4 and Primary 5, providing students with authentic opportunities to use Chinese in meaningful, real-world contexts. Through the programme, students develop essential communication skills — conducting interviews, reporting on school events, and presenting information clearly and confidently in Chinese.

Students are guided to acquire foundational news-reporting skills, including interviewing, filming, editing and photography. By applying their language learning beyond the classroom, they strengthen their Chinese proficiency and build confidence as communicators.

Link to 21st Century Competencies

The programme also strengthens 21st Century Competencies, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking and technology literacy. Through group reporting tasks, students learn to work as a team, practise public speaking and develop positive social interaction skills.

Learning is delivered through a blended approach that combines classroom instruction, hands-on reporting activities and e-learning tasks designed for Higher Mother Tongue studies — providing varied experiences while keeping the focus on purposeful language use.

Where possible, students also engage with external partners such as media practitioners, deepening their understanding of journalism and real-world communication.
