Designing, Building and Problem-Solving

BRPS STEM Club offers students an exciting gateway into the world of engineering and robotics through hands-on, collaborative learning. Using LEGO SPIKE, students work in teams to design, build, and programme their own robots — embarking on challenges that stretch their creativity and deepen their problem-solving abilities.

From constructing simple vehicles to developing complex machines capable of navigating mazes, students engage in the engineering design process — brainstorming ideas, testing prototypes, evaluating outcomes, and refining their creations. This iterative approach cultivates resilience, adaptability, and critical thinking as students learn to embrace setbacks as opportunities to grow. As Sin Un and Hannah from Primary 5 put it, "We must work together to solve problems. We need to listen to the ideas of each other and test it before saying 'No'."

Taking on New Challenges

Beyond the building table, students actively represent the school in competitions such as the First LEGO League and the National Robotics Competition. In preparation, they strengthen their coding and programming skills, learning to design algorithms, troubleshoot errors, and optimise their robots' performance. These experiences build confidence, initiative, and a sense of pride in their work. As Primary 6 student Lam Khai shared, "I feel very proud to be able to take part in the competition and represent my school. It is not about winning but to have fun and try out the robots. It is fun to present my robot to the judges and learn to improve."

Through these authentic and purposeful experiences, STEM Club students apply both engineering and computational thinking in meaningful ways. Along the journey, they develop important qualities such as respect, determination, and self-discipline — growing not only as confident coders and innovators, but as curious, self-directed learners who are ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
